In 2004, our very first Estate vineyard bottlings of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay were christened St. Cindy, named for our dear sister, co-founder, and benefactor Cindy Zwicker Reston. For the first time since 2005, Dan selected two barrels of the truly exceptional 2020 Pinot Noir to re-introduce this special designation.

Tasting Notes: Elegant, fruit-driven nose showcasing a bouquet of raspberry, red licorice, vanilla, and light floral notes. Ripe raspberry is featured on the palette, with a hint of vanilla and forest floor. The structured, velvety tannins lead to a satisfying warm finish. An excellent pairing with salmon steak, roasted chicken and turkey, and eggplant dishes. Drink now through 2028, with potential for longer aging from 2030 to 2032

Growing Season: 2020 was one of the finest vintages ever here in Prince Edward County. This turned out to be a pleasant surprise following an extremely challenging Fall of 2019 when we had to scramble to bury the renewal canes to ensure the survival of fruiting budwood. We were about halfway done in the vineyard when the weather turned to snow and -20C temps in early November! The earth became too hard to work with our V plows and deep cultivators and vines were left uncovered through the cold snap. Despite this and all the other turmoil that we were about to face in 2020, the resulting fruit achieved superb ripeness, great structure and acidity.

Harvest: Bud break was slightly later than normal but summer quickly took the reins and galloped to veraison a couple of days earlier than usual. The weather conditions were warm without excessive heat and drought stress. Most importantly, harvest conditions were dry and warm allowing for full ripeness and maturity by every measure, not the least of which was potential alcohol content.

Winemaking: It was clear from the outset of the 2020 Harvest that it was destined to be a special vintage and the perfect time to re-introduce the St. Cindy. What made it so exceptional was how well every varietal expressed the core essence of its inherent nature in both place and time. Aged n one new light long-toast barrel and one second-fill 500 L puncheon for 19 months, the wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered as winemakers Dan and Lee carefully and gently racked to ensure the wine was clear of lees.

2024 WINE OF THE YEAR, The Canadian Culinary Championship

BEST OF SHOW, Canada’s Great Kitchen Party

SILVER, National Wine Awards of Canada

Charming cherry, strawberry and plum notes, lifted, perfumed and earthy. Subtle red fruit with a mossy savouriness. Elegant with good concentration and pleasant refreshing finish. 92 points, Decanter Magazine

Perfumed, detailed and impeccably balanced from a great Ontario vintage by winemaker Dan Sullivan. David Lawrason, Canadian Culinary Championship

An intense nose of black cherries, strawberry tart, cassis, brambly/earthy/forest floor notes, elegant spice, and savoury black raspberries. It’s rich and complex on the palate with the full range of ripe red berries, cassis, a touch of anise and fine oak nuances that all comes at you in layer after layer of pleasure. The fine-grained tannins add a measure of structure to this detailed Pinot Noir, and it all comes together on a long, finessed finish. Another beauty of wine that will reward with time in the cellar. 95 Points, Rick VanSickle - WinesInNiagara.com (09/22)

With a vintage as great as 2020… the ripeness and extract here are the finest ever from these PEC lands 94 Points, Michael Godel - WineAlign (10/22)

This light, poised and elegant pinot has a lovely, generous nose of red cherry, gentle florality, vanilla and fine herbs. It has a nice energy to it, fairly intense, firm yet juicy with excellent acidity. Tannins are solid but not astringent. Some minerality joins the finish. The length is excellent. 93 Points, David Lawrason - WineAlign.com

This inaugural 2020 pours a saturated red colour, and delivers a broad range of ripe red fruit aromas, like red currant jam, cranberry-raspberry puree, pomegranate syrup and more in a lively, complex, ripe but fresh expression where careful fruit selection seems apparent. Wood is a nicely integrated feature without obvious presence, and length and depth are excellent. 92 Points, John Szabo - WineAlign (10/22)

Unfiltered. Bright ruby in colour; raspberry and cedary nose with a note of white pepper; medium-bodied, dry, raspberry, cherry and tea-leaf flavours, firmly structured with ripe tannins; long finish. 90 Points, Tony Aspler - TonyAspler.com (10/22)

Rosehall Run's premium pinot noir from a highly successful vintage, the 2020 St. Cindy is showing gentle maturity and an appealing degree of ripeness. Flavours of red currant jam, dried cherry, bramble and delicate oak spice are tangled around a spine of firm acidity and fine-grained tannins. Succulent with a refreshing minerality that lingers on the finish of excellent length. Score 91, Sara d’Amato, winealign.com
